Slade II

1992.

After Nod and then Jim left Slade in 1992, Dave and Don wanted to continue with the band which they had both started way back in 1966, so new members were recruited and, with everybody's blessing, the new line-up was Christened "Slade (Mk.) II"!
New members were Steve Whalley on guitar and vocals, with Steve Makin on guitar and Craig Fenney on bass.
Slade II have continued to tour extensively, under the management of Len Tuckey, former guitarist for, and former husband of Suzi Quatro.
Their first release came in 1993 and was a Single on 7" and CD Single format, a "Power Ballad", called "Hold On To Love", (which had originally been titled "Hold On For Love"!):-

This was followed in 1994 by their first album, "Keep On Rockin!":-

The Bonus Track on the album, "Merry X-Mas Now" was a song that Dave and Don had had knocking around for some years and it was hoped to have been released as a follow-up Christmas Single to "Merry Xmas Everybody"!  After that, it was believed that it was going to be released as a second charity single by Dave & Don, as a follow-up to The European Team's Sport Alive. Anyway, it was finally released as a CD Single in 1994:-

There was even also an official SLADE II A4 - sized Fanzine published! Here are a few examples of covers of three x copies! : -

( There also exists an unreleased track, -  End Of The World ( Vocal Version ) ! )
This finally saw the light of day as a Steve Whalley Promo solo CD single c/w M'hat, M'coat !

Other unreleased recordings include three tracks featuring backing singer, Karen Mckee, who was the original backing vocalist on Red Hot, before Ruby Turner did the finished recording! The other two tracks were Everybody's Got A Dream
and Love Is!
This version of "Love Is!" is a Hill / Hunt song and a completely different song to the Lea / Holder unreleased "Love Is" Demo. Jim had a copy of this track! Here is all that is known about the lyrics! : -
The chorus was all about what love was about. Something like.

Love is big
Love is tall
Love is up
Love is down.... of that ilk.

Jim recorded a new version of it a few years ago. A few notes were made - as you can see

Jim can’t find the original Slade demo though - so it is unlikely that the Slade song will ever come out unless Nod had a copy too.

Subsequent band members have been Trevor Holliday and Dave Glover on bass. Then, another line-up saw Dave and Don joined by John Berry on bass, vocals ans violin and Mal McNulty, as frontman!
For the third album, "Cum On Let's Party!", and the subsequent single, "Some Exercise", onwards, the band are simply known as "Slade" once again, and with everybody's blessing once again!
In 2019, Malcom McNulty retired from the band and was replaced by Russell Keefe. Also, in this year, whilst Don had to take time off, to recover from knee injuries, The Sweet's current Drummer, Bruce Bisland took over as a temporary stand - in replacement for a little while, but when he had to return to The Sweet, Alex Bines took over as the temporary stand - in drummer. In 2020, that position became permanent.
